The Education Commission provides effective organization and structure for the communication of the Good News of Jesus Christ to our young Catholic Community at elementary school level or younger. It imparts knowledge of the past history and heritage of Church Doctrine. It addresses educational needs of the Church today and in the future.

Parenting Seminars
Parenting seminars are offered twice a year- in the fall and in the spring. Topics discussed are chosen to meet the parenting needs of our faith community of St. George.
Internet Safety Seminar Handouts
Rainbows Facilitators
Adults are needed to facilitate small peer support – meetings with children who are dealing with separation, divorce or death. Facilitators must attend an extensive training program.
Commitment: 6 weeks in the fall semester and 6 weeks in the spring during school hours or Parish School of Religion sessions

Catechists
Share faith and knowledge of God with a group of students in preschool through grade 11. Formation is encouraged and is available through the parish and diocese. Assistance is needed in the following areas:

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Adapted for Children (RCIAC)
Catechists
Catechists are called to share faith and knowledge of Catholic Doctrine and reflection on scriptures with children preparing for full reception into the Catholic community. Catechists work as a team and share teaching responsibilities. Formation is encouraged and is available through the parish and the diocese.
Commitment: once a week on a rotating basis
Support Catechists
Assist main catechists as small group leaders.
Commitment: once a week on a rotating basis
Peer Companions
Young people in 9th grade and above willing to share faith, friendship, and support with children in the RCIAC process during their faith journey.
Commitment: weekly on Sundays

St. George Nursery School
The nursery school was established in 1982 as a program of St. George Catholic Church. The primary objective of the school is to provide for the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of the preschool-age children of St. George Parish. This is done in a fun, challenging and loving environment. The children experience and learn about God's love, prayer, God's gifts, and other people in their Christian community.

St. George School
St. George School has a long and successful tradition of providing Catholic education to the children of Baton Rouge. St. George opened its doors in 1960 and has grown to meet the changing needs of its students. St. George has been able to provide for the education of the whole child by providing a progressive curriculum that integrates faith and academics. Over 1,000 students benefit from the service provided by our volunteer service groups.

Home and School Association
This association complements and supports the staff and faculty of St. George in fulfilling goals of Catholic education. The H&SA strengthens ties in the community among family, school, and parish. The Home and School Association provides room parents for each class and sponsors a variety of social activities. All parishioners are invited to support the organization.

Athletic Association
This association provides a complete inter-scholastic and intramural program for St. George School and Parish. The association provides coaches and officials for volleyball, basketball, football, and track.

School Advisory Committee
The role of the School Advisory Committee is to promote the school mission and the goals of the Education Commission. With prayer as its foundation, the SAC encourages a spirit of cooperation through its commitment to children, parents, faculty and staff by facilitating communication between these groups. The SAC also works to discern needs within the school community, and makes recommendations to the administration.

Vacation Bible School
Lead coordinators, teachers, aides, arts and crafts, refreshments, drama, nursery coordinators, costume coordinators, music leaders, and decoration team are needed for one week during the summer to spread the good news of the Gospel to children. Adult and teen volunteers are needed for VBS.
Commitment: one week during summer and preparation beforehand
